Work Placements and the Incubator Scheme

Train2Game takes great pride in its approach to supporting students along the many routes to industry post graduation. Whilst most students will follow traditional paths into development, we recognise that a one-size-fits-all approach is not always going to fulfil every student’s aspirations. To that end, two other support initiatives were created to supplement the regular tried and tested approaches.

Games Industry Work Placements: gain experience in a games studio to add to your CV

The placement program is aimed at the best performing students at any point in time. The top ten percent of the course academically will be assessed for suitability for an industry placement and matched with a studio that meets their geographical location and skills capacities. We take great care to assess both studios and students and go through a match-making process to ensure that the studio has a valid need for a student, can mentor and manage a student effectively and can add to that student’s knowledge and effectiveness. The students are matched to studios on the basis that their skills and capabilities are of a good standard, the student is specialising in a field that the studio needs and that their attitude and work ethic is of the same high standard.

The Game Design Pipeline

Students are not guaranteed placements as part of the course; they need to earn that right. Studios are not guaranteed to be offered placements; it’s purely on the basis of the right person at the right time to work on the right project.

Train2Game Incubator Scheme: create your own games development company

Many of the students we have on Train2Game harbour the ambition to be games developers and independent companies in their own right. We are committed to giving those individuals that display the highest levels of talent and commitment a route through to creating a new games development company.

Games design and development tools
The Train2Game Incubation Scheme offers a mix of in-kind and direct financial support to teams of students that meet all the criteria for running a games company. The approach of ‘embedding’ a new company inside an existing studio is both radical and highly successful. We will help create a comprehensive working environment with state of the art hardware and software for each team we support. We will also help the team to develop the business skills they may need to sit alongside their creative capabilities and provide mentoring from some of the industry’s most successful people. In conjunction with the host studio we surround the team with creativity, technology and experience. This blended approach to supporting new companies fits well in conjunction to the learning games development pioneered by Train2Game.
