TIGA backs CBI call for more creative industry support
29/07/2010
Trade association TIGA has welcomed a new report from business organisation CBI which calls for the UK government to offer more support to creative industries.
In the CBI document, entitled Creating Growth: A Blueprint for the Creative Industries, the organisation called for a "modern, forward-looking regime" which works to create favourable conditions for the creative sector.
Among the measures outlined in the report are the need for better IP protection laws and the promotion of relevant strands of education, as well as the need for favourable tax conditions.
Dr Richard Wilson, chief executive officer of TIGA, said the report touched upon many of the issues which affect the videogames industry, particularly in terms of tax breaks.
He also expressed hope that other business organisations, such as the Institute of Directors and the British Chambers of Commerce, will now take more interest in the needs of the games sector.
Earlier this month, TIGA and other members of the games development community met for roundtable discussions with the coalition government, during which the case for games tax relief was once again laid out.
